Remembering Tiananmen Square/Student Democracy Movement

tiananmen square goddess of liberty10:30 p.m. on June 3 1989 tanks from the People’s Liberation Army moved into Tiananmen square, by 5:40 a.m. the following morning the Square had been cleared. The Chinese government released a casualty count of 241 however evidence later showed that at least 400 to 800 civilians where killed with some estimates up to 10,000. This had been a peaceful protest.

On that day a young man cried out to his friends “You must remember this day! Today is June fourth!”

I recommend every one read Zhang Boli’s account of the day and his escape from China.
